Hello W6OU, after reading screen burn and heat sink issues of the IC-7610 and expensively optional fiters and LAN interface that you have to buy for the yaesu FTDX101D, I decide to buy new 5K, that has an OLED issue to. I want to know, wat is the lifetime of the OLED display approx?
Not every FTDX-5000 has had an OLED problem, and many that did experienced that problem within the first two years of ownership. I have had my original FTDX-5000MP for 6 years now with with no problem at all.
I have one of the original units, from 2009, and the OLEDs all had lines and 2 of the 3 have gone dim. I just bought new ones from Yaesu and they charged full price for them. Not even a hint that they might be covered under a warranty. Also, my radio has always had the S-Meter occasionally sticking on the left side (works when I smack it) and the VFO-A rotary encoder has always been noisy. Yaesu would not cover these repairs either. So I ordered everything (including a new main display, which is also growing dim). They had to back-order several of the pieces and it took 3 months for the package to arrive (last week). Fortunately, there are some really nice videos that show how to do the repairs. I love the rig, but it is also my last Yaesu.
My original post on this was about 2-3 years ago, and AT THAT TIME, they took care of mine. I'm not seeing your point of making me aware of your issue, but sorry to hear of it in any case.
Sorry, but my question got cut off. Does anyone know how to get the main tuning knob off? This is the original model with only ONE set screw and none of the metric or English hex wrenches fit it. In fact, the inside of the set screw looks almost round.
It's a 2mm set screw.
Also, they have a replacement meter available that has plastic bumpers that prevent the sticking.
Where can you get the replacement meter that does not stick?
My FTDX-5000 was in the for repairs more than I used it/ over 3 years.
Has anyone had any good luck contacting Yaesu lately?
