Wife Doesn’t care, she got over the antennas long ago.
I don’t involve my friends that aren’t interested , as for parents, mom HATED it ( old neighbor who always ran high power on his CB’s that constantly interferes with the tv and radios , along with what she used to hear, ruined it for her back in the 80’s) dad is more a mechanic , wrench turner, doesn’t have any interest.

My parents don't really care that much about my antennas and radios except when the cause interference. We will see what they think when put up a 100 foot tower :p:p:p My friends think that my hobby is strange lol.

My father (SK) promoted the idea, including help me install a tower... he got licensed because he was taking me to a novice class, but never once operated to my knowledge.

My mother was indifferent as far as I know, but she might have silently hated the whole thing. My friends never said much about it, of course I was their go-to guy for anything/everything electronic/electrical/CB/car stereo, etc. That trend continued at the fire department. All the comm and anything that had a wire attached to it was my problem. It’s probably a good thing the FD coworkers didn’t mess with electrical/electronics. Several couldn’t replace the end of an extension cord and do it right.

I come from a large family that had limited financial resources but my parents always did their best to support our interests. My father was more mechanically technical than electrically technical but that didn’t stop him from mentoring me. They bought me my first kit radio for Christmas in 1969, a Philmore two tube super regenerative receiver. I was 12 years old. My father watched me as I assembled it but did not intervene except to help clarify the instructions when necessary. I completed it at about 1:00 AM. We strung a piece of wire through the first floor of the house for an antenna. When the radio warmed up I tuned around and found WNEW from New York. The excitement was magical. As a very young teen I was not only fascinated by electronics but also antennas. It was not uncommon for my mother to arrive home from work and see me on the roof of our two story home or in the large maple tree in our yard hanging or aligning a new antenna. I know she was afraid I’d fall and injure myself but she never stopped me. I credit their encouragement for helping me find a career that isn’t a job, it’s a constant adventure and never ending learning process. In my opinion, encouragement is one of the foundational pillars of successful parenting.

Parents are not in the equation since they passed away years ago.

Wife is OK with my hobby as long as I don't interfere with the TV!

Most if not all of my friends are hams, so I have that going for me...

But thanks for asking and your English is very good, so please continue posting here: it is nice to hear from hams outside the USA!

They just think I'm a geek. Family has no interest whatsoever.

    Hi Eric!

My wife is not interested in ham radio but has always been supportive of it and my other hobbies, and I have supported her hobbies. My adult children are not interested, but one is an electrical engineer like me so he understands the technical part.

Most people don’t know about ham radio. After you explain it they think it’s strange because today anyone can have a mobile phone to communicate wirelessly :p. My friends are not interested in ham radio, except one who is also a ham. My neighbors accept my antennas and were helpful when their devices caused RFI. Sometimes they ask me for help with electronic and electrical problems.

73, and I hope to work you on the bands.

    They don't have a clue and don't want to know .... ..
I've had many people over the years say "how does it make money? They can't relate it to a hobby such as golfing of fishing.
