I’m considering getting a set of headphones for inside my shack…the Commander In Chief has no interest in who is saying what on the air.

But here is my dilemma - I use my Anytone 578 for 2m and my Yaesu 450D for HF. If I get two headphone jumpers, plug one into the external speaker jack on the 578 and the other into the headphone jack on the 450D, what are my options for a switch device where I can plug in both jumpers and switch back and forth between radios as needed? The 578 will work on Bluetooth but the 450 won’t.

DPDT, Double Pole, Double Throw switch. $1.99 at Parts Express.

Other parts: Project box, 1/4" Stereo Phone jack, (2) Phone plugs*, a few feet of shielded audio cable (or just some 2 conductor electrical zip cord).
NOTE: This is a generic part list. You need to research the correct phone plug needed for your cables/radios*.

-This would be an excellent beginner project!

I built something very similar a few weeks ago, but I used a 3 position rotary switch instead of a toggle. I used a 3 position only because I couldn't find a 2 position. It took about 30 minutes to build it, and I got the parts from All Electronics - https://www.allelectronics.com/?gcl...k-UncnWUoi-xcwX7z1rMG59CnYJl-ADMaAjIAEALw_wcB. Great prices and faster shipping.

My application was slightly different. I wanted to switch the audio from my FT-817 between a speaker (position 1) to an outboard audio filter (position 3). Position 2 is not used. Works like a charm.

too bad you can't quickly get to a local Radio Shack to get the parts real quick. but these days mail order is pretty good.

yeah, excellent beginner project. go for it.

You can use a 4PDT switch and keep the grounds isolated.

Ground loops can happen when you do these things.

You can always wire one radio into the Right ear and the other radio into the Left, No switching required.
