I have a friend that is running Windows 7 and internet explorer and when he is on his logbook page, none of the links seem to work. If he double clicked on a call nothing...Click on next page awards nothing. Clicking on Help take him to a new window, checking on the checkboxes beside each call toggles them on and off , so in other words some functions work, just not others. He can not edit the records.

I believe there is nothing on the site or his account that is causing this, as I can sign into his account from my computer and EVERYTHING works as advertised. He says that it worked the day before yesterday. Yesterday I gave him an application I am currently programming which installs Microsoft database engine 2016 and .net 4.8, but I am 99% sure that that has nothing to do with this problem. Uninstalling my app fixed nothing. That same app is on my machine and works fine.

He has many applications that he uses daily that lock him into Windows 7 and Internet explorer 11, so in his mind replacing them is not an option. Clearing the browser cache did not help. Any suggestion of what to try would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bob KA3WLV

Has he tried another browser? Just because he is "locked into" IE for some applications doesn't mean he can't have another browser on his PC. I've used Mozilla Firefox with both Windows 7 and 10 and find it works well.

At this point he has not. I tried to get him to install Chrome, but he said he had trouble with it in the past. I am not sure all browser will allow install on Windows 7, but I shall suggest again, perhaps Firefox. He is just frustrated, as it worked one day but not the next. Only different between days was my application. As a programmer I often face the quick assumption. He however was a programmer so believes me when I say there is no relationship between my app and the problem.

You need to find out what those applications are and work on getting your friend on a updated OS.

Personally, I can't think of any applications that would stick you to W7. The physical PC might, but not the OS. I'm running W11 and can still run GWBasic and ".exe" programs designed for DOS systems. I still use MS Office 2007, that I bought when I was using systems running XP. I still use drawing packages from the XP days.

I even have a old copy of the ARRL Antenna Handbook (1997). With the handbook was a 3.5" floppy with design software that ran under DOS. They still offer the same software, but updated for Windows. I still run the old software on W11 using DOSBox.

However, porting those apps across to a newer machine with a newer OS may be difficult.

The problem with trying to install a different browser is that, the latest browser versions might may not allow installation on an old OS. I have a XP system that runs Firefox. But it's a really old version, because the latest version will not install. So I had to back up on versions. But it does what it needs to do.

Over the years, HTML has evolved. Now, most sites require compatibility with HTML5. This means that some sites can generate HTML structures with parameters that older browsers can not understand. IE is one of those browsers that has not kept up with the times. IE isn't even available on W11 installations.

K7MEM brings up a good point. Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 7 or IE with security and other update patches. If he's going to use Windows, he really needs to be on version 10 or 11.

He did update to Edge. It was an accident, as he thought it was an IE update. It did fix his problem. Thank all of you for your input.
