portable means anything from a handle to a forklift.

Does this qualify for your definition of portable?

To me, operating portable just means operating outside somewhere away from home.

My little portable ham station, please don't laugh. :DYes it's a mini milk crate. I wanted something I can take a long with ease. The old 2 meter rig on to is overkill, and I think I'm going to take it out of the crate . My new Raspberry Pi 4 cyber deck computer is really a fun addition, I'm learning how to get it to play nice with my Yaesu FT818ND. It needs a good bit of additional gear yet , like a GPS dongle but it's coming along. The RPi is powered by a DC/DC buck converter from 12v to 5.1 volts it pulls around 1.5 amps with the touchscreen and fan.
The battery I'm using is WAY to big and heavy ( it's one of my solar array batteries for home) so that's another thing I need to change. It also has a small solar panel that keeps the battery happy in the daylight.
So this is my underwhelming attempt at portable ham radio lol!

all a matter of perspective and will.

in the u.s. army, anything that has a handle is portable. an item may have 12 handles, but 12 soldiers
    could hump it somewhere.

in the u.s. air force, if it has a handle it could be hooked up to a forklift, crane, etc., and loaded on a

in the u.s. navy, if it could float and had handles, the seals could swim it somewhere far,
far away in the middle of the night undetected, and then blow it up. chuck norris likes this,
    but could do it himself.

Never thought I'd ever use a Mag-Loop ant. They're awful hi priced, too power and freq restrictive...
Found one made with RG-11. Covers 80 to 17m just great. Superb directive and null. Takes 25w. < $175 shipped..
I can knock it dn, set it up in no time, fits in a 12" sq x 3" tall box, light weight, screws on a tripod...
Run mine lashed to the ladder of my Mini Cruiser so it's up 20' but I can reach the tune cap OK...

Seems silly to concern oneself with such trivial nonsense. “Eye of the beholder” and all that jazz!!! It’s a symptom of the rampant social degradation in which people concern themselves with the going’s on of others!
Who honestly cares…. I believe we need a giant meteor to strike the earth so people will get back to the essentials of life and stop concerning themselves with what everyone else is doing!

I personally carry a 6000 watt generator and 2 K3’s with panadapters in a ditty bag and run 400 miles to set up a 200 foot tower in order to do portable ops. I do this every morning before sunrise!

I hear Apophis is only 8 years out. So you might get your wish. I also like your truck setup that seems like a very nice get away from the noise of the city kit.
