I'd think someone in NYC could easily visit Joe and ask him "Hey, show me the JHS 22 radio club, I'll come with you!" and see what happens.:)

If I lived nearby I'd do that.

So is the insinuation that dishonest advertising money is being accepted? Because that's the tone this thread puts out regardless of what Jr High School 22 is doing.

It sounds like they aren't doing a thing. Given the information from several here, it sounds as if JHS 22 (as opposed to PS22) has been closed for a while.

JHS22 was in lower Manhattan years ago.

JHS22 is now in the Bronx -- the City re-labels schools. The current JHS22 has no amateur radio club.

Well, "Honestly" and "Advertising" are usually mutually exclusive...

Maybe 20, 30, 40 years ago (the ad states "Bringing Communication to Education since 1980") they were part of JHS 22 on the lower east side, the current JHS 22 is in the Bronx. If you search the NYC's website for "Ham Radio" there are no hits.

IF they once were associated with NYC Schools, great, but if they are no longer and still claim to be via misleading ads, then I have an issue with that. I can find only a single reference to anything related to "helping schools" and that is a annual conference for teachers that last was held in a pub.

Again, maybe in the past they were active in their mission, but reading their newsletter today doesn't show any activity related to "Bringing Communications to Education". If I am wrong, I'd love someone to show what this organization has done and IS doing today. Just like any non profit that asks for your money, you have to do research. If they are passing themselves off as a ham radio club affiliated with (or at) JHS 22, when none exists, where do you go from there?

You know, if anyone is seriously interested in the status of the charitable organization and whether or not any fraud is (or is not) involved, there is a simple solution.

Contact the State of New York. I don’t know offhand which agency regulates registered charitable organizations, but it shouldn’t be too hard to find out.

Or we could just keep posting here, and hope that maybe, one of these days, someone might take notice and Do Something.

Keep in mind that we may be dealing with nothing more than a lack of effort to keep the online documentation up to date. There once was an Amateur Radio Club at JHS 22, but (as has been explained already in this thread) the current NYC school known as JHS 22 is not that school; the school previously so designated has since been renamed and somewhat repurposed. So, of COURSE, the current JHS 22 has no knowledge... why would they?

They also have a raffle going, selling 100 $25 tickets to win a TS-590SG.
To quote the 4/28/15 issue of their newsletter -( http://www.n4gvk.net/appleslices/archives/appleslicesweek17042819.pdf )
"Your support will mean a new radio for the "Crew" station and possibly the same for you."

Whatever the "Crew" station is, I won't speculate. Just the facts, man, just the facts.
