Wow. Scary to see a Collins KW-1 draw only $1150 in the auction for Parker's estate, W1YG.
One of the better ones too, Ser. No. 25 (better audio values).
There were four of them on the block, high sale was $4400.
    Ominous...

I got two more pre-war Super-Pros and a bunch of tubes.

    All good deals, too.

It's mostly over for technically minded AMers.

What killed it is the availability of out of the box new SDRs which outperform almost everything else on AM.

Discussions of electronic art have been replaced by discussions of features and benefits of the latest radios.

Fortunately, many of the SDR owners who stay in the game will obtain a boatanchor or three and try to make them transmit as well as an SDR.

I believe the prices last night more reflected that this was not as well advertised/marketed an auction as others (like David Schulman's auctions). News of this auction was posted by individuals to Facebook AM and CW sites and on AM Fone and this site. But that's not the same as a well organized effort to spread the word like David does. I was watching the end of the auction as items went live, and just didn't see a lot of bidders. Having said that, I do believe that as we boomers die off there won't be the same market for BAs as in the past. Supply and demand in a free market will always have its way.

What do Corvettes and KW1s have in common?

    The plastication of AM.
And either blow the mod. iron or die when faced with a D104.

Beats seeing the same ones listed year after year at $22,000 "FIRM" etc.

It's about time the KW1 hoarders start sensing reality, IMO

They're beginning to come down to sane prices...almost. If someone gave me one I'd use it on CW. No offense to the KW1 lovers but my 3-400 and 4-1000 rigs would never get traded by me for a KW1.

Personally I prefer the 30K over the KW1

You think Collins prices have been high? Just wait until MFJ collecting really takes off! :)

New In Box items with a rattle of loose parts will command premium prices!
