I got my QRZ-1 radio a couple of weeks ago. I been using this radio daily. It is a very good radio, battery life is good. Good audio. Great job QRZ and Gigaparts for this promotion. I need to just buy the cable for programming, Thank you :)

It would be great to have a table set up promoting this at the upcoming Stone Mountain Hamfest the first weekend in November

How long should it take to get our start up kit?

Don't recall what accessories were also available for purchase with the radio, but selling a kit with a pigtail from SMA to SO239 might be a worthwhile addition. Local ham got his QRZ radio, and we were working with him to find a pigtail that will work, so he can use an external antenna.

Good question. Here's my timeline in case anybody is curious how long they can expect things to take:

Saturday: I took the tests for my technician and then general licenses with the VEC.

Monday: The VEC emailed to let me know that they had sent my info to the FCC.

Tuesday: The FCC sent me the bill for my license (I paid it right away).

Wednesday: My new callsign appeared in the FCC's ULS. I set up my QRZ.com account with it.

Thursday: My callsign appeared in the QRZ.com database (before that, I was "not a ham member"). After an additional delay, I showed up as eligible for the program and submitted my additional info (a photo of my drivers license) for verification. I was verified quickly and ordered my radio (and programming cable) from Gigaparts that day.

Friday: Gigaparts sent me a delivery confirmation email.

Monday (week 2): My tracking information appeared on FedEx's website, with an estimated delivery of Wednesday.

Wednesday (week 2): Received my radio and plugged it in. It's charging as I write this.

I still haven't made any contacts yet. Soon I hope!

Just purchased this for my grandson, KI7YXM. He was licensed a couple of years ago, but the Beofang radio I gifted him (loaded with extra accessories) proved difficult for him to get excited about. I wasn't having much luck getting time from him to explore that radio's (somewhat unfriendly) learning curve.

Your Explorer QRZ-1 complete package, along with the excellent manual (that I downloaded and read) will hopefully get him over the hump and on the air.

THANKS FRED, et al... Wonderful, well thought out program, that you and the others have sponsored here. Kudos!

First net tonight! But I messed up the first time and was still in simplex. Don't forget to set your offset direction with this HT.
